City Drinking Water Taste and Odor Update

City Drinking Water Taste and Odor Update:

The City of Bethlehem drinking water system continues to experience taste and odor issues.  This began in October and is caused by the seasonal turnover of our reservoirs which occurs every spring and fall.  The turnover stirs up impurities in the reservoirs that can make the water smell or taste “stale”, “musty” or “metallic”.

This transient event has lasted much longer this year compared to previous years and is most likely due to the drought and unseasonably warm temperatures this fall.  With the onset of consistently colder weather, we anticipate this problem to abate in the coming weeks.

There are no harmful compounds associated with this natural turnover of the reservoirs and the water is safe to drink.
