The Department's policies and procedures are referred to as Directives. Directives are currently in the process of being classified as public, limited release, or for law enforcement use only. Public and limited release Directives will be updated online at the same time they are distributed to our officers.
Directives provide our officers with a framework for how to handle a particular work function or issue. They go beyond existing laws and regulations to guide our officers in a way that is consistent with the Department's mission. There are times when it may be appropriate and necessary for officers or supervisors to deviate from procedures outlined in a Directive.
