NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED
This part-time, union position works no more than 29 hours per week at the City of Bethlehem's Theis/Cornfeld Recycling Center and the Bethlehem Yard Waste Facility and is responsible for assisting visitors with the handling of yard waste, compost, and other recyclable materials.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Reviews driver's licenses and compost cards of visitors to confirm residency and accuracy; reports financial transactions and submits money to Recycling office; opens and secures the facility as scheduled; ensures proper placement of recyclable materials by assisting visitors and monitoring containers; maintains a safe and clean facility; completes required paperwork including payroll forms; assists in the distribution of recycling containers, lids, and bags; informs visitors of items that are accepted at Recycling facilities; safely operates Styrofoam machine, weed-wacker, compactor, shredder, baler, and other equipment.

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Ensures the safe, efficient operation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems in accordance with state and federal regulations; plans and supervises the maintenance and repair activities of all transmission mains and related facilities, potable water storage, pressure reducing stations and pumping facilities, community well systems and wastewater lift stations; plans and supervises all SCADA field maintenance/repair activities; plans and supervises activities of Inflow and Infiltration remediation program; participates in preparation of operating and capital budgets; participates in developing goals and objectives for the bureau; procures supplies and equipment for efficient, continuous operation of the water and wastewater systems; plans and supervises CCTV inspections of the collection system.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership skills; working knowledge of mechanical equipment related to water and wastewater system operation and maintenance; thorough knowledge of workplace safety rules and state/federal drinking water/wastewater regulations; strong ability to read and understand plans, schematics and equipment documentation; proficient use of computers and related software, enterprise systems, and SCADA; good knowledge of hydraulic principles related to water and wastewater systems; strong communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other agencies and the general public; must be reachable after-hours to respond to emergencies.
