NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED
This part-time, union position works no more than 29 hours per week at the City of Bethlehem's Theis/Cornfeld Recycling Center and the Bethlehem Yard Waste Facility and is responsible for assisting visitors with the handling of yard waste, compost, and other recyclable materials.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Reviews driver's licenses and compost cards of visitors to confirm residency and accuracy; reports financial transactions and submits money to Recycling office; opens and secures the facility as scheduled; ensures proper placement of recyclable materials by assisting visitors and monitoring containers; maintains a safe and clean facility; completes required paperwork including payroll forms; assists in the distribution of recycling containers, lids, and bags; informs visitors of items that are accepted at Recycling facilities; safely operates Styrofoam machine, weed-wacker, compactor, shredder, baler, and other equipment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; ability to work well with others; ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions (snow, rain, heat & cold); ability to lift or handle boxes/bags/materials of up to 50 pounds; ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods of time; ability to safely operate Styrofoam machine, weed-wacker; compactor, baler, shredder, and other machinery as required; must be able to assist in snow removal activities when necessary; weekend work is required.

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks to construct, maintain and operate water and sewer lines, reservoirs, pump stations and all other related facilities. Utilizes all types of water and sewer maintenance filed equipment to perform tasks (includes various motor vehicles such as trucks, sewer rodding machine, flusher, and similar maintenance or construction equipment). Repairs/maintains mechanical and pumping equipment. Repairs pavements, manholes, culverts, and all other concrete/brick structures.

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED
Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining order at the pool facility by preventing accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons.  Responsible for monitoring pool facilities for potential hazards or unsafe conditions, providing first aid to patrons, and custodial duties in maintaining the pool facilities.
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Open the pool each day and close it down each evening; monitor pool-related activities closely, identify and address any safety issues; direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions; maintain a clean environment in and around the pool; assist patrons when appropriate or necessary; attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings; complete required documentation.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED
Work of this class involves applying engineering knowledge and skills to the management, administration and design in the overall execution of assigned projects. This position works in coordination with the Bureau of Engineering, and other Bureaus and Departments in the performance of its duties, including, design of stormwater facilities, reporting for NPDES MS-4 permit, and administration of the Stormwater Collection and Management Program. Position requires the use of independent judgment in the planning of projects and making technical evaluations.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Supervises various engineering and capital projects assigned by the Chief Engineer, including: construction, inspection, preparation of estimates and calculations of assessments; responsible for administration of the City Stormwater Collection and Management Program; prepares stormwater permits for the City including MS-4, PRP, and NPDES; prepares specifications and construction plans (using Auto CAD) for various Public Works projects including stormwater and works with engineering consultants to review and coordinate design work; answers questions and responds to complaints from the public, contractors and others requesting stormwater permits and stormwater related services and maintains records accordingly; reviews subdivision and site development plans, provides comments, and attends Planning Commission meetings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
