Hepatitis

Hepatitis Q & A

Hepatitis is when the liver gets inflamed or damaged. This can affect how well the liver works. Things like drinking too much alcohol, certain medicines, or some medical conditions can cause hepatitis. But most often, it's caused by a virus. In the United States, the main hepatitis viruses are hepatitis A, B, and C.

Hepatitis is contagious, which means it can spread from one person to another. This can happen through things like having sex, sharing needles, or not washing hands well after using the bathroom. But there are treatments available to help.

The Bethlehem Health Bureau (BHB) provides immunizations against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B.
