Despite the fact that intervention strategies have been implemented, motor vehicle injuries still remain the leading cause of death and injury for the ages of birth through age 28. The Bethlehem Health Bureau’s program is based on Penn Dot data and has the following focus areas:
- Increase visibility of general traffic safety rules and violations
- Decrease aggressive driving crashes in Northampton County
- Decrease crashes caused by unsafe heavy trucks
- Decrease motorcycle fatalities and crashes with in Northampton
- Decrease older driver fatalities and crashes
- Improve correct use of child safety restraints in Northampton County
- Increase seatbelt usage among Northampton County motor vehicle occupants
- Reduce bicycle crashes and fatalities on public roadways
- Reduce driver crashes and fatalities among 16 and 17 year old drivers
