Mechanical Maintenance

The Mechanical bureau is Responsible for specifying and purchasing, Maintaining, and disposing of all vehicles and equipment for all departments in the City of Bethlehem which includes PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND PUBLIC PROPERTY, WATER & SEWER RESOURCES, POLICE, FIRE AND EMS.

In total, The city currently operates around 430 vehicles and pieces of equipment. We perform all regular maintenance, state inspections and emission testing and repairs on these vehicles throughout their usable life at our facility on Stefko Blvd.

We also customize vehicles for various departments to make them usable in their respective areas.

We support all city departments in various around the clock operations like Snow storms where we keep plow and salt trucks in operation, repairing any breakdowns as soon as they occur.

We support the Fire Department around the clock during major fires to monitor and fuel pumpers and aerials to keep them on site.

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK DONE ON A DAILY BASIS ARE:

  • Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and intricate rebuilding/reconstructing of vehicles within the City's fleet.

  • Special hi-tech skills required for Fire Trucks.

  • Recovering/Recycling refrigerants from motor vehicle air conditioners

  • Maintaining motors at water and sewer pump stations throughout the City

  • Providing inspections on police-related accident investigations

  • Performing changeovers to vehicles in police, fire and other units that include installing radios, lights, computers, Video surveillance equipment, GPS, cages, etc.

We also operate a gasoline and diesel refueling site that is used to fill all City owned vehicles
