Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, horticulture, or landscape architecture and a minimum of five years of experience in a forestry related field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. <br />

Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Arborist certification by the International Society of Arboriculture or the ability to acquire such certification within six months of date of hire is required.<br />

This is a professional forestry position in planning, organizing, implementing, directing, inspecting, and coordinating all urban forestry functions and regulations on public property under the direction of the Director of Public Works.<br />

The City Forester position also includes contributing work product and ideas to planning projects and programs, developing procedures related to urban forestry, and acting as a liaison between internal and external customers with a commitment to public services and responsible stewardship of the urban forest. Enforces City Ordinances and Regulations governing the protection of trees; investigates violations and issue warnings, citations, or notices. Reviews site plans and provides recommendations to ensure compliance with Ordinances. Plans, prepares, manages, and inspects contracted tree removal/planting projects. Reviews, inspects, and issues tree permit request and conducts follow-up inspections. Responds to inquiries and concerns regarding issues related to urban forestry.<br />

Must possess a thorough knowledge of urban forestry, arboriculture, botany, plant physiology, and horticultural principles/practices. Highly proficient with basic computer operations and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. GIS experience preferred.<br />
