April 17, 2021, is the re-rescheduled date for the 14th Annual Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program Celebration of Reading . . . and the Arts and Sciences.
What a difference a virus makes, and how we all look forward to getting back to what we remember as “normal” in our lives.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 . . . rescheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2020, because
of the COVID-19 pandemic . . . now on track for April 17, 2021—fingers crossed, we will be able to celebrate our children, our community, and what we have been able to accomplish by working together in the name of literacy.
Exploring a police car and fire engine . . . participating in a science experiment . . . working with the creative folks from the Northampton Community College’s “fabulous” Fab Lab . . . getting fingerprinted . . . building
with Lego’s . . . creating a craft at a reading station . . . being entertained by storytellers . . . working out
with local student-athletes . . . enjoying the performances of hundreds of young people from throughout the community . . . having your face painted . . . “Spending some time at ZIME,” the Northampton Community College’s restaurant, and enjoying a cooking demonstration . . . and, of course, getting a free book from
Cops ‘n’ Kids. Oh, how we have missed this magical day!
With a theme of “Welcome Back!” the possibilities for a day of fun, food, community, entertainment—and, of course, literacy—are endless at the long-awaited Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program’s 14th Annual “Celebration of Reading . . . and the Arts and Sciences,” Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Northampton Community College Fowler Family Southside Center at 511 East Third Street in south Bethlehem, from 11 am – 3 pm—and it is all FREE.
Thanks to its many community partners, for the 14th year, the Celebration offers local families an
opportunity to enjoy an all-expense-paid afternoon filled with food, music, crafts, face painting, sports demonstrations—and free books! Performances include singing, dance, and theater groups from area
schools at an indoor and outdoor performance venue at NCC’s Fowler Family Southside site.
Cops ‘n’ Kids is an award-winning initiative that pairs area youth with new and gently used books generated through book drives and donations from local businesses, schools, individuals, and others in the community who have responded overwhelmingly to the program’s mission of “connecting kids and community through literacy.” An army of volunteers of all ages and from all segments of our community begin planning in September for this popular Celebration. Their mission: to come together for the good of our community’s children. In just one April afternoon for each of the previous thirteen years, the Celebration has showcased the spirit that defines Cops ‘n’ Kids throughout the year.
It seems like forever since we have gotten together to celebrate who we are as a community—let April 17, 2021, be the day to do just that. Again, mark your calendars!
