The construction of the Bethlehem Skateplaza
will be the culmination of years of community input, town
meetings, and fund raising events. Over the years, skateboarders,
BMXers, community leaders, and parents have recognized the
need to provide a safe place for the rising number of action
sports enthusiasts in the City. The Skateplaza addresses that
need, giving skaters and bikers a designated space to perform
the sport they enjoy.
Embodying innovation that has been reviewed
by nationally known skate designers, the Bethlehem Skateplaza
is rumored to be, “The new standard for skateplazas.”
For those engaged in high action sports, the Skateplaza will
be like none ever experienced. For non-riders, the Plaza will
function as a passive space to watch the action, gather for
fellowship, or simply relax outdoors.
At more than 750 ft. long, the Plaza will
be a one of a kind venue capable of supporting national skate
and/or BMX events, or celebrations and festivals where crowds
can assemble allowing the local economy to benefit.
Our Mission
Our mission is to establish a world class
Skateplaza in Bethlehem that is unrivaled in its progressive
design and immense size. The plan addresses the needs of the
community and the desires of action sports enthusiasts to
exercise in a safe, secure environment. Benefits include strengthening
community partnerships, providing positive youth development,
and contributing to the health and physical well-being of
our City in a multi-use, park like setting.
Bethlehem Skateplaza Location
The Bethlehem Skateplaza is located between
Steel and Daly Avenues along a rails-to-trails project called
the South Bethlehem Greenway which will transform approximately
3 miles of an old railroad bed into a recreational and pedestrian
open space. Situated near the Sands Bethworks Complex, the
Skateplaza offers excellent marketing exposure for sponsors
that will be viewed by more than five million tourists a year.
Bethlehem Skateplaza Flythrough
“It
is important for the city to provide a safe and legal place
for kids who skate and BMX. It has been a long time in the
making, but I am confident the Skateplaza will be world class
and worth the wait.”
