The Bethlehem Police
Department Criminal Investigations Division is led by a Captain
and further divided into the Criminal Investigations Bureau
and the Special Operations Bureau, each led by a Lieutenant.
The Criminal Investigations
Bureau is comprised of three Detective Sergeants and twelve
Detectives. Some of these officers have significant specialties
including:
- Forensic Services Unit
- Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force
- Special Victims Unit
The Special Operations Unit
is comprised of three specialty units, Vice Unit, Street Crimes
Unit, and the Bethlehem Housing Authority (BHA) Street Crimes
Unit. Detectives assigned to the Vice Unit are also members
of both the Lehigh and Northampton County Drug Task Forces.
We have a Detective a member of the FBI Violent Crimes
Task Force and also a Detective who is attached to the Allentown
office of the DEA.
The Street Crimes Unit consists
of one Sergeant and five officers who are responsible for all
of the block watch groups throughout the City. These officers
work closely with the block watch groups and are responsible
for maintaining good communications with the citizens who participate.
These officers also work hand in hand with our Detectives and
are uniquely positioned to both gather and provide intelligence
on any criminal matters throughout Bethlehem. The officers
work in plain clothes or in uniform and utilize cars and bicycles
to provide any services that are needed to further our investigative
efforts. Since the formation of the Street Crimes Unit,
these officers have been responsible for the capture of many
violent criminals and also for providing the necessary intelligence
to solve many crimes.
The BHA Street Crimes Unit
provides the same services as the Street Crimes Unit, only they
are assigned to work in the Bethlehem Housing Authority properties
of Marvine-Pembroke, Lynfield, Parkridge, the Litzenberger House,
Bodder House, Bartholomew House and the Monacacy Tower.
These officers are funded through the Bethlehem Housing Authority.
