DESCRIPTION OF THE CITY SEAL
The official seal of the City
of Bethlehem is a circle, consisting of a rope scroll,
in the center of which is located a five-point star.
Within the star is an emblem representing
the American eagle from whose head radiates an emblem
indicating rays of light. In his left talon are three
arrows, symbolic of war, and in his right talons is
the olive branch, symbolic of peace. His breastplate
is an impress of a keystone.
Between the five points of the star
are five emblems, symbolizing Bethlehem’s history
and achievements.
The impress of the Cross and Bible
typify Religion; the impress of the Greek Lamp of Learning
supported by two volumes typifies Education; the lyre
is symbolic of Music, for which the community has been
renowned; the impress of an athlete hurling a disc represents
Athletics; and the impress of an anvil, sledge hammer,
and gear wheels, typifies Industry.
