Winter weather can create conditions that cause serious consequences if you are not completely cautious and alert when navigating on foot during the winter months. Ice, freezing rain, snow and other winter weather conditions can create slippery surfaces that encourage slips and falls, which can lead to injury. Please read the tips below to see how you can prevent slips and falls during the winter months.

  • Take your time while walking; examine surface conditions for visible hazards
  • Walk attentively on visibly hazardous surfaces
  • Avoid icy conditions and paths whenever possible
  • Remove snow from the bottom of shoes and boots before entering a building
  • Take care when selecting footwear in the winter. Materials, such as leather and plastic, are very slippery on conditions such as ice and snow
