Mission Statement
To preserve, protect, and promote health and well being,
and to improve the quality of life for all City residents.
Welcome
The Bethlehem Health Bureau (BHB), officially
founded in 1980, ensures the health of the Bethlehem City
community by utilizing the three core functions of public
health: needs assessment, service assurance and progressive
education. Through the four program areas, which include Chronic
Disease, Communicable Disease, Environmental Health Services
and Maternal/Child Health, the Health Bureau implements health
strategies focusing on the goals identified in Pennsylvania’s
Healthy People 2010.
What's New
June is Adolescent immunization
Month
The Bethlehem Health Bureau is promoting the month of June,
2010 as Adolescent Immunization Month. This purpose is to promote
the preteen doctor visit for 11-12 year olds as an opportunity
to get up-to-date on vaccines so they will be protected from
vaccine-preventable diseases.
Make it a goal to schedule a doctor’s appointment for
your preteen to get them up-to-date on their immunizations,
and to give them a chance to talk to their doctor about ways
to stay healthy.
The federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices
(ACIP) recommends that 11 and 12 year olds receive the following
immunizations:
• Meningococcal vaccine
• Tetanus booster (Tdap)
• Human Papilloma Virus
• Second chickenpox vaccine
• Annual flu vaccine
• Hepatitis B
If your preteen/adolescent is in need of one of the listed
vaccines and they do not have health insurance, please call
The Bethlehem Health Bureau at 610-865-7087 to schedule an
appointment.
2010 Community Health Survey
Results
The purpose of this project
was to assess the major health concerns in the City of Bethlehem
and the behaviors and factors that have the greatest impact
on overall community health. In order to be responsive to
the needs of our citizens, the Bethlehem Health Bureau will
utilize the results from the survey to establish health priorities
and improve the services that we provide to the community.
The full results are available
