NOTICE - CITY OF BETHLEHEM WATER CUSTOMERS

PEOPLE POSING AS CITY WATER EMPLOYEES

The City of Bethlehem’s Water and Sewer Resources Department is issuing this advisory for the benefit of its customers. Employees working for the department are required to wear photo identification cards. Residents should demand to see this card from anyone claiming to be from the Water and Sewer Resources Department. If the person cannot produce the card, the resident should call their local police.

Water and Sewer Resources Department employees must drive city-owned vehicles while on duty. These vehicles have prominent city lettering, logos, and vehicle numbers. If anyone claiming to be from the Water and Sewer Resources Department does not have a city vehicle, residents should notify their local police.

It is unusual for Water and Sewer Resources Department employees to need to enter a property; furthermore, it is extremely rare for employees to show up unannounced at a residential property. Normally, if a property must be entered, arrangements will be made in advance by phone with the property owner.

If residents have any doubts about someone claiming to be an employee of the Water and Sewer Resources Department, they should notify their local police. Bethlehem Water and Sewer customers with questions about this issue are encouraged to call the Water and Sewer Resources Customer Service Office Department at 610-865-7070 or 610-865-7071.

Annual Hydrant Flushing Maintenance Program

The City of Bethlehem Fire Department and the Department of Water and Sewer Resources has announced that the annual Hydrant Flushing and Maintenance program began on April 15th and will continue through October 31st. Department personnel will be conducting this work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and 10:00 pm – 6:00 am. This routine work is being done as part of the City’s hydrant maintenance program that allows fire hydrants to be operated and inspected to ensure they are working properly throughout the system.

Crews will be opening the hydrants to flush out any accumulated sediments, lubricate hydrants, and identify any needed repairs for follow-up by our Water Maintenance personnel. Residents may notice discoloration of water, low pressure, and/or cloudiness of their water when the flushing is taking place in their neighborhood. These problems should last only a short period of time.

The City of Bethlehem realizes that hydrant flushing may cause some inconvenience, however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption. The community’s cooperation with the Annual Hydrant Testing/Flushing Program is appreciated.
